Alumni awards banquet Four Goizueta alumni were honored at the September 21 Alumni Awards Reception and Dinner at the J. W. Marriott Hotel in Atlanta. Honorees were Roger Barnette Jr. '98 MBA, Outstanding Recent Alumni Award; Russell E. Ford '81MBA, Alumni Service Award; J. Joseph Edwards '54Ox-'56BBA-'58MBA, Alumni Entrepreneurship Award; and J. Neal Purcell '63BBA, Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award. Thomas E. Noonan, president and chief executive officer of Internet Security Systems (ISS) delivered the keynote address. He is responsible for the overall strategic direction, growth, and management of the company he launched in 1995 with Chris Klaus. Under Noonan's leadership, the network security management company has raised more than $150 million of venture and public financing and has grown to more than one thousand employees operating in fourteen countries. Traded on the NASDAQ (ISSX), ISS reported $117 million in revenues in 1999. Award recipient Barnette is founder, president, and CEO of eTour, a company that surfs the web for its members and brings them sites that match their specified interests. Ford, marketing director of Andersen Consulting, focuses on the financial services industry. He was 1997-1998 board president of the Goizueta Alumni Association and currently serves as Goizueta's representative on the Emory University-wide Alumni Board of Governors. Edwards, president of United Bank, is active in both the American and Georgia Bankers Associations and is a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Barnesville, Georgia. United Bank is a community bank serving personal and business accounts with eleven offices and sixteen ATMs in the Barnesville area. Purcell, vice chair of KPMG, relocated to New York in 1998. He joined KPMG as an accountant in 1963, was elected partner in 1972, and has been a member of the firm's board of directors and served as area managing partner for the northwest and the southeast regions. In New York, he works with the firm's national insurance practice. Purcell is a charter member of the Goizueta Business School Advisory Board. Carol Carter |
