New Goizueta website
reflects school's momentum

For many businesses and organizations, their website is the first opportunity to put their best foot forward. Goizueta stepped out confidently when it recently unveiled its new website: www.goizueta.emory.edu.

The site, developed by Macquarium under the leadership of President Marc Adler ’95BBA-’96MBA, reflects Goizueta Business School’s progressive nature, unique legacy, and collaborative spirit. The website team’s primary goals were to design a new look and feel that supports the Goizueta brand, to create an online community that speaks to target audiences, and to keep important content current by providing easy to use content management tools. The site also incorporates fresh colors, new images, and crisp design, while providing a user-friendly structure and useful information for everyone who visits.

“The old site had been in place for a couple of years,” says Victor Rogers, Goizueta director of communications. “We wanted the new site to be easy to navigate and visually attractive without being cluttered.”

The site incorporates the major categories from the previous site, such as Degree Programs, Executive Education, Career Management, and Alumni & Development. Corporate Relations and the Goizueta Business Library are more prominently featured on the new site. The homepage includes a link to the current issue of Knowledge@Emory, Goizueta’s online publication in partnership with Wharton.

Other website highlights:

  • Throughout the site are rotating photos and frequent updates on news and events to ensure that each user experience is unique. The site uses several advanced technical enhancements such as flash, DHTML, content management tools, and rotating graphics that set it apart from other sites.
  • The homepage features an animated Flash movie with an inspirational quote by the school’s namesake, Roberto C. Goizueta, and a link to his biography. A scroll of the computer mouse over the school’s logo reveals the phonetic spelling of “Goizueta.”
  • Goizueta Overview includes links to faculty bios and the Goizueta Business Library. The Overview also includes a section on Goizueta’s technology, diverse community, and international aspects. The Atlanta Advantage section touts the benefits of living, working, and studying in Atlanta—a vital component of the school’s brand and a frequently mentioned reason why students come to Goizueta.
  • Prospective students can quickly browse Degree Programs to determine what Goizueta offers, then link to Program Overviews and an online application. Career Management quickly informs recruiters and students about its systems and services.
  • Go to Corporate Relations to view the list of Goizueta Advisory Board members. Or click on Alumni & Development to revisit alumni benefits, review upcoming events, and look at the Leadership Alliance to learn how and why Goizueta is growing.
  • The new site includes an expanded Pressroom with a database of images and logos that can be searched by keywords.
  • Under the leadership of CONSUMER building’s founder Amanda Besemer ’01BBA, a searchable, proprietary image and logo database and other elements of interactivity were added to the site. An Expert Search—to be located in both the Faculty & Research and the Pressroom areas—will make it easy for reporters, students, and faculty at other institutions to find a Goizueta faculty member with expertise on a particular topic.

“The decision to redesign a website is not made without
serious consideration,” says Barbara Maaskant, Goizueta’s chief information officer. “In addition to dollars, the cost to the organization in terms of employee time and resources is significant. The payback has to be there. On the technology side we gain a great deal with the new flexible database back-end. This ‘Dynabot’ feature allows for rapid submission of items that change often or have a short life cycle, and it updates existing web pages. Faculty can update their own Biography page, and individuals can submit events and add news articles,” she says. “On the old site, these items required web developer intervention.”

The new site is the result of more than a year of research, surveys, and discussions led by Macquarium. The website team included dozens of Goizueta faculty, staff, and students who produced, reviewed, and revised all content.
