Dear alumni and friends,

The tragic events that unfolded before our eyes on September 11 are incomprehensible. As this issue of Goizueta Magazine goes to print, there are more questions than answers. We do not know how many lives have been lost, and some of us are awaiting news about missing family and friends. Our hearts go out to all, but especially to those so directly affected.

The day after the attacks we held an open forum to give Goizueta students, faculty, and staff an opportunity to express their feelings. Not surprisingly, our international students were deeply pained by these events and eloquently expressed their sorrow and offered support.

This outpouring of compassion re-emphasized what we have known for quite some time: people come to Goizueta from all over the world because of the school’s high quality of education, but also because of its strong sense of community. It is that sense of community that we can draw on during this time of pain and uncertainty.

As business leaders and professionals, the challenge to rebuild is great. In the midst of our efforts to recover, we remember that this event has affected everyone, and the healing process will take time. But, we can be assured that the people of this nation are strong and we will overcome. We cannot return to the way things were, but we can build a better tomorrow.

My prayers and thoughts are with you and our entire Goizueta community around the world.

Sincerely,

Thomas S. Robertson
