Dear
alumni and friends,
July marks the completion of my first full year as dean—and what an incredibly rewarding year it has been, both professionally and personally. I have had the pleasure of working with many dedicated alumni and friends of the school. The commitment to the school that I witnessed during my interviews and subsequent campus visits is widespread and runs deep.
And, as the academic year comes to an end, it’s a good time to review some recent accomplishments and look ahead.
Applications to all of our programs have increased, and, most importantly, the quality of our applicant pool is outstanding. The incoming classes have demonstrated leadership and strong business acumen in the working community, which builds on the students’ strong academic foundation. The average GMAT of the Full-time MBA Program is now 681, the average SAT of the undergraduates is 1330, and the average GMAT for the Doctoral Program is 717. Our Doctoral Program is graduating its first class this year—outstanding students who will accept faculty positions at other leading business schools.
Professor Jag Sheth and his wife, Madhu Sheth, generously provided a major gift to The Goizueta Foundation Doctoral Program. The gift will support Ph.D. students during the dissertation phase of their studies. It is a fantastic tribute when a faculty member believes so strongly in the school where he teaches.
We celebrated the fifth anniversary of Knowledge@Emory, our complimentary online business publication that showcases our faculty research and expertise through stories that help put the business issues of the day into context.
Our building addition, The Goizueta Foundation Center for Research and Doctoral Education, has been enhanced with an amazing art collection provided by Ron and Barbara Balser. The Balser Art Collection includes works by Braque, Dali, Hockney, Lichtenstein, Picasso, Rauschenberg, Tamayo, Murakami, and Warhol.
We will roll out the cross-school leadership initiative, and will present the details to you this fall. Led by Vice Dean Maryam Alavi and Prof. Rick Gilkey, our leadership development model will complement the core academic rigor in each degree program.
As always, I thank you for your support, and I welcome your suggestions for maintaining the school’s strong momentum.
Sincerely,
Larry Benveniste
