K@Emory celebrates fifth year

To commemorate the fifth anniversary of Goizueta’s online business publication Knowledge@Emory, a special print issue called “Research in Review” was developed and features a collection of articles culled from the site. Launched in April 2001 as a biweekly effort, Knowledge@Emory helped to pioneer online delivery of business research and news, showcasing the expertise of the faculty at Goizueta and throughout Emory. A joint venture with the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, the site moved to a monthly format in 2003.

Knowledge@Emory has published more than 900 articles on topics ranging from finance and business ethics to technology and innovation. With more than 20,000 unique users spread across 139 countries, the site attracts additional readership through links and reprints on the Economist.com, European Business Forum’s website, CNET.com, and other well-known sites. Sponsorship of the site has been provided by The Coca-Cola Company, Siemens Energy, Siemens Medical, KPMG, The Boston Consulting Group, AirTran Airways, UPS, and Financial Times.

“The popularity of the publication is due to the intellectual expertise we have at Emory,” says Nicole Golston, managing editor of Knowledge@Emory and editor of Goizueta Magazine. “Faculty members work one-on-one with our editorial staff. This willingness to share their knowledge is what makes the publication a success.”

To celebrate the anniversary, a panel discussion titled, “The Convergence of Technology and Ethics: What Does the Future Hold?” was held on March 30, featuring Jagdish Sheth, Charles H. Kellstadt professor of marketing; Emory alum Boris Jerkunica ’85C-’87G, CEO and co-founder of ZivVa, a global phone service provider; Mark Snyderman, chief ethics and compliance officer for The Coca-Cola Company; Jeff Levy, chairman and CEO of Pu-rDigital and its parent company Biltmore Communications, a broadband service provider in Atlanta; and Andrea Casson ’88BBA-’93MBA, president of the Emory Board of Governors and director of BellSouth Internet Group. Benn Konsynski, futurist and George S. Craft professor of decision and information analysis, moderated the panel.

Maryam Alavi, the founding director of Knowledge@Emory, vice dean of Goizueta Business School and the John M. & Lucy Cook chair in information strategy, notes, “Knowledge@Emory remains the perfect showcase for leading edge research from our faculty. It serves as a conduit to expose Goizueta to an even broader, and global, audience of CEOs, top level managers, and entrepreneurs.”
