Alumni, faculty maintain worldwide connections
In a singular case of what goes around comes around, Patrick Noonan crossed the globe last summer to work for Goizueta alums. As associate professor in the practice of decision and information analysis and a former assistant dean and director of MBA programs, Noonan says he probably has met every MBA student who has attended Goizueta since 1993. Now some of them are putting him to work. “Our students end up doing some interesting things. They call us back when they start new businesses or need an expert to help in the field,” he explains. Last summer he answered calls from Barcelona, Spain; Chicago; Budapest, Hungary; Kuwait; and Montevideo, Uruguay.
He traveled to Barcelona, Chicago, and Budapest for Accenture. Five years ago, Lynne White ’99MBA, who directs the consulting firm’s worldwide training in strategy consulting from its Atlanta office, asked him to develop and deliver a training module in data analysis for the firm’s new business analysts. Now he presents the module four to five times a year.

At the request of alumni, Patrick Noonan traveled to Kuwait to teach decision modeling and analysis. |
Noonan never knows which alums he will meet while teaching for Accenture. During his latest trip to Chicago, he met up with Alan Shaw ’01MBA, Joy Feng Wei ’01MBA, Carlos Lugo ’01MBA, and Oksana Kukurudza ’01MBA.
Noonan traveled to Kuwait for Abdullah Alessa ’03MBA and Meshary Al-Judaimi ’00MBA, who started a business last fall to bring high-quality executive education to the Gulf region. Noonan led courses on decision modeling and analysis. (During other sessions, Associate Professor of Finance Shehzad Mian has taught finance.) In a country where a young man’s reputation is determined by his father’s position in the community, these young alumni are making a name for themselves, says Noonan. They are filling a void and making valuable contacts among Kuwaiti ministries and corporations in the process.
Diego Socolovsky ’02MBA brought the same kind of entrepreneurial spirit to Montevideo’s Universidad ORT, where he teaches finance and advises the school’s dean on ways to internationalize the school. To bring in outside faculty, Socolovsky obtained a Fulbright grant that Noonan applied for and won. The grant enabled Noonan to teach a course on game theory and strategic thinking. In addition, he led a faculty workshop on business case studies and other approaches to active learning.
While at ORT, Noonan met with Javier Jasinski ’01MBA and Andres Mokobocki ’03MBA, who are very active in the local business community and as Goizueta representatives. In between these activities, Noonan made a side trip to Buenos Aires, where he visited Carlos Javier Pasetti ’02MBA, who is busy in local real estate, and Lindsay Williams ’06MBA, who was working as a summer intern for Kimberly-Clark.
“It’s great to see former students making a difference in their communities and industries,” declares Noonan proudly. “That’s what this education is all about.” —Christian Kirkpatrick
